The New York State Joint Employment Taskforce on Employee Misclassification has issued its annual report. The Taskforce — created in September 2007 by then Governor Spitzer pursuant to executive Order 17 — is tasked with investigating and enforcing misclassifaction matters in employment.

The report highlights the Taskforce’s efforts to stem misclassifciation by employers throughout the state, inlcuding:
46 sweeps of work sites throughout the state;
291 investigations based on the sweeps;
the reciept of over 2000 tips to the Taskforce; and
referral of numerous cases to the NYS Attorney General’s office and District Attorney’s offices.
